Hi there!

It's a gray morning here in Durham, ON and I'm still in bed snuggling with my 9 month old, it's a PA day today which means the 3 yr old is home and mentally I am saying get up and make waffles for breakfast and a green smoothie but my body has plans to stay in bed all day!  Ha! Wish I could do that but alas I'll get to those waffles!  

So lately with the 9 month on the move, I haven't had much time to paint, and hopefully I'll be able to soon, I'malso currently  trying to get my devotional blog running on a daily basis and thinking about the fact that my time at home with the kids will soon be up and then back to the 9-5.  

I've spent a lot more time at home since fall started and have been able to hang a few art around the home which always brings motivation and smiles. 

I'm also currently dreaming up a new color palette for my winter batch..

Happy Labour Day to all celebrating!  It's such a gorgeous day here in Toronto and I'm about to take the girls out for some water fun! But before I do I thought I'd share some of my art installations!  Enjoy!

An Art Open House

I haven't done an art report in quite sometime but I found this amazing artist on Etsy and had to share his amazing work!

 "I love oil paint, it's texture, viscosity, slow-drying time and smell. I paint abstract. I never know what it is going to be until it's complete. When I start to paint, I always put some colours on the canvas without thinking. My choice of colours is often accidental or intuitive. I try to catch the chance meeting of colour with composition. Sometimes I get lost, and then other times I find myself walking along a path that brings me back to where I belong. Art Report:: Kara Walker

I first saw Kara's work a couple of months ago in one of the interior design magazines. Her piece was displayed on the wall of a nicely decorated dinning room. These bold silhouette's are show stoppers and on second glance you'll definetely notice the "nightmarish" fantasy.."Kara Walker is a contemporary African American artist who explores race, gender, sexuality, violence and identity in her work. She is best known for her room-size tableaux of black cut-paper silhouettes." Wiki"Walker's silhouette images work to bridge unfinished folklore in the Antebellum South, raising identity and gender issues for African American women in particular. However, because of her confrontational approach to the topic, Walker's artwork is reminiscent of Andy Warhol's Pop Art during the 1960s (indeed, Walker says she adored Warhol growing up as a child). Her nightmarish yet fantastical images incorporate a cinematic feel."

For the new year, I've decided at least once a week to blog about anything art related. As much as I love interior design, I almost equally am in love with art. As an artist myself, I can appreciate the various art pieces that are created by these genious artists.

Add color to your space!

Sure, it's winter outside, but it doesn't have to look that way inside. Don't be afraid to add color to your space! Step outside of the norm of beiges, grays and browns and go for blues, oranges and greens! Too afraid to paint your walls those birght colors? That's ok, if your not daring enough to paint the walls, add touches of color throughout the space. Choose colorful pillows for your sofa or a rainbow of colors on an art piece. It may be wintery cold outside but you can keep it bright warm and tropical inside. alk
